London Taxi PR joins Millwall job fair to promote the Knowledge of London
London Taxi PR (LTPR) joined forces with Millwall Football Club Community Trust to take part in the 16-24 Youth Employability & IAG Hub Job Fair on 9 January. Held at The Lions Centre, next to Millwall’s New Den stadium, the event connected young people with potential career paths and training opportunities.
The collaboration was initiated by John Scarborough, Education and Employability Manager at Millwall’s Community Trust, following a recent networking event at the club. The partnership was bolstered by LTPR’s pitchside promotion of The Knowledge, the rigorous training required to become a licensed London taxi driver.
LTPR extended the invitation to the Taxi Academy Knowledge School, which enthusiastically joined the event. Taxi Academy tutor Courtney Connell, a former Transport for London Knowledge examiner, accompanied LTPR on the day. Recent graduates and current students, including new driver Sandro Berishvili, Franco Zaccaria, and single mother Liola Jemmott, also shared their experiences.
The job fair brought together 18 organisations, including the Army Reserves, Lewisham Council, and Catch 22, providing attendees with diverse employment and training options.
LTPR has been promoting careers in the licensed London taxi industry. Through targeted campaigns, the organisation raises awareness of the training required to become a licensed driver and the benefits of using London’s iconic black cabs.
LTPR’s Andy Scott said: “Taxi Academy responded quickly and positively, and it made sense to have representatives from a Knowledge school such as theirs there, particularly as we would be engaging with a young, diverse audience so I knew that we had to be able to communicate and demonstrate to those attending that this could be a potential career for them.
“This was an age group we had not reached out to before specifically, and being as this was the first time of us being present at a job fair, we did not know what to expect. It was a case of, nothing ventured, nothing gained. The event was great in terms of attendance and engagement, and the team from Taxi Academy were superb. As a result of the reaction and response, we have been invited to a further two successive job fairs, one of which is in conjunction with Lewisham Council, so it was a great response and thoroughly worthwhile.
“This was a great promotional initiative for the Knowledge and the profession as a whole to a young age group, who were able to see and hear exactly what can be achieved and attained from those who have either completed The Knowledge and are now driving or tutoring, and from those who are still studying and due to qualify soon. Their enthusiasm and passion came across to all those who came to our table to find out about what we were offering.”
