London Taxi PR (LTPR) got a taste of the Knowledge of London in action during a recent visit to one of London’s growing Knowledge schools.
Situated at Gett UK’s driver services hub on City Road in EC1, the Taxi Academy is led by seasoned drivers and industry professionals. Co-founders Tom Scullion, a City of London Guide, and Courtney Connell, a former Public Carriage Office examiner, head the team. They are supported by experienced drivers Tommy Fielder, Lisa Seymour, Sandro Berishvili, and Reiss Woodard.
The Academy, which opened in October 2023, offers an in-depth and free training programme for aspiring black cab drivers.
The initiative is funded by drivers and industry stakeholders, reflecting the trade’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the standards of London’s iconic taxi service and maintaining the number of drivers available to service the community.
During the visit, LTPR’s Andy Scott delivered 30 branded goodie bags to students as a gesture of encouragement and support.
Scott noted the Academy’s growing popularity, with classes now running three times a week to accommodate around 100 students. Scott said: “It was good to see and hear about the number of students attending the classes at the school, and to learn that numbers were sufficient enough to warrant the addition of a third weekly class as well.”
Scott added: “This is our way of just providing a little something for the students, by way of encouragement and a goodwill gesture, and also to demonstrate our support for them as they begin their journey."
Classes are held on Mondays from 2pm to 5pm and on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5pm to 8pm, offering flexible learning opportunities. For more information, visit thetaxi.academy.
