London’s road network is set for some disruptions over the coming months, with key closures impacting taxi drivers and other motorists. Here’s what you need to know for this weekend.
Westminster Closures – 15 and 16 February
Praed Street in Westminster will be closed from 08:00 to 18:00 on both Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 February due to resurfacing works by Westminster City Council.
On Saturday, the closure will be in place between Tanner Lane and the Norfolk Place/Norfolk Mews junction. Norfolk Mews will be inaccessible. On Sunday, the closure moves between Norfolk Place/Norfolk Mews and the South Wharf Road junction, though Norfolk Mews will reopen via Norfolk Place and Eastbourne Terrace/Praed Street.
Access to Tanner Lane, which serves Paddington Square and key NHS buildings, will only be available from Eastbourne Terrace and Praed Street throughout the weekend. Traffic marshals will be stationed at the Praed Street/London Street junction both days, with an additional marshal at Norfolk Place and Saint Michael’s Street on Sunday.
A40 Westway Closures Until February 2025
The A40 Westway will remain closed eastbound between the Westway roundabout and Marylebone Flyover every weekend until Monday 17 February 2025. The closure is in effect from 22:00 on Fridays to 05:00 on Mondays for essential safety improvements.
Tower Bridge Nightly Closures Until 2 March
Tower Bridge will be closed overnight from 22:00 to 05:00 until Sunday 2 March for bridge maintenance. Alternative crossings include Southwark Bridge and Blackwall Tunnel, though delays are expected.
Lambeth Bridge Eastbound Closure Until December 2025
Lambeth Bridge is closed eastbound (towards Lambeth) daily from 05:00 to 21:30 until mid-December 2025. Segregated cycle lanes are in place, and westbound traffic towards Westminster remains unaffected.
This is part of a major safety project to replace the existing roundabouts with signal-controlled junctions. Drivers should use alternative river crossings where possible.
