London New Year’s Eve Road Closures: Taxi drivers and motorists prepare for widespread problems
Central London will see widespread road closures on New Year’s Eve to facilitate the annual fireworks display. Roads in key areas will shut from early afternoon, affecting access to major bridges and surrounding routes.
Closures will begin from 2pm, with access to many areas restricted. Buses will be diverted, and those travelling across the river have been encouraged to use the London Underground, which will operate throughout the night.
The following roads and areas are confirmed to close:
Westminster Bridge: Closed from 2pm.
Golden Jubilee Footbridges: Closed from 2pm (pedestrians also prohibited).
Waterloo Bridge: Closed from 2pm.
Lambeth Bridge: Closed from 6pm.
Blackfriars Bridge: Closed from 7pm.
Millennium Footbridge: Closed from 8pm (pedestrians also prohibited).
A network of streets near the event areas will also be closed. Authorities will enforce additional closures at short notice where needed for safety reasons.
Motorists are advised to avoid central London entirely during the event. Pedestrians should also prepare for restricted access and increased congestion near the river.
Public transport, particularly the Tube, remains the most reliable way to navigate the city during the celebrations.
