A Land Rover driver on Merseyside learned the hard way that even robust off-road vehicles have limits.

The motorist chose to disregard road closure barriers on a flooded road, believing their vehicle could handle the situation.

Merseyside Police Traffic reported that this decision led to the Land Rover stranded in deep water, a costly misjudgment.

The image shared by police showed water submerging over two-thirds of the vehicle's tyres. The driver's confidence in their vehicle's capability was misplaced, as the heavy flooding rendered the vehicle useless. Merseyside Police confirmed the driver was reported for the incident.

Floodwaters present significant risks to motorists. Even seemingly shallow water can be deceiving, potentially masking hidden hazards like potholes or sudden drops in road levels. Water just 30cm deep can be enough to sweep a vehicle away, while deeper sections can stall engines, causing thousands of pounds in damage.

Merseyside Police Traffic said: “The driver of this #LandRover decided to ignore the road closure barriers on a flooded road, thinking their vehicle could swim. The vehicle proved otherwise. Remember - the barriers and closures are there for a reason. Driver reported.”
