In a shocking incident on the M58, a driver narrowly escaped serious harm when a set of ladders, improperly secured, detached from a van and crashed through the car's windscreen.

The event occurred during peak traffic hours, causing significant alarm on the motorway.

Lancashire Police Roads swiftly responded to the scene, where they found the blue Citroën with its windscreen shattered by the impact of the ladders. The driver, while shaken, was fortunately not seriously injured in this frightening incident.

Police have confirmed that the ladders were not adequately secured to the van's roof rack, leading to their unexpected launch onto the busy motorway.

The driver of the van has been reported for carrying an insecure load, a violation that could have led to more severe consequences under different circumstances.

Authorities are currently investigating the details of how the ladders came to be insecurely attached.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of properly securing all loads on vehicles to ensure the safety of all road users.

Lancashire Police Roads said: “Earlier today,  the driver of this car was fortunate not to be seriously injured when an insecure set of ladders came off a van roof rack on the M58 motorway and through the windscreen. The van driver was reported for the insecure load.”
