IWGB urging Uber, Bolt and other private hire drivers to LOG OFF in Valentine’s Day protest
Private hire drivers are set to log off ride-hailing apps this Valentine’s Day in a coordinated protest against pay and working conditions.
The action, organised by the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB), calls on drivers to switch off platforms such as Uber, Bolt FREENOW and Addison Lee between 4pm and 10pm on 14 February.
Drivers have also been urged to gather outside the Mayor’s Office at City Hall between 4pm and 6pm to demand better treatment. The IWGB claims that operators exploit drivers through unfair pay structures, high commission rates, and deteriorating conditions.
The Valentine’s Day walkout follows another major driver strike just days earlier. On 11 February, members of the App Drivers & Couriers Union (ADCU) will hold their own strike targeting Uber. The ADCU is demanding higher fares, lower commissions, and improved rights for drivers.
The IWGB hopes the pressure will push ride-hailing companies and policymakers to address drivers’ concerns. With Valentine’s Day being one of the busiest nights of the year for private hire services, the strike could have an impact on availability and pricing for passengers.
An IWGB spokesperson said via social media: “Uber, Bolt and Addison Lee are slowly destroying drivers' lives.
“Not just our finances but our health, our relationships and our mental wellbeing are all being ripped apart. This Valentine's Day - we fight back.”
