Toyota gave more than 300 Uber drivers the chance to test its electric vehicle range at Brands Hatch, away from the daily demands of city driving.

The event, organised by One Toyota Fleet Services, provided hands-on access to more than 80 electric models. These included the Toyota bZ4X SUV and both the Proace Verso and Proace City Verso people carriers. Lexus also took part, with its UX 300e and RZ 300e electric SUVs available for driving sessions.

The day served to strengthen Toyota’s growing partnership with Uber. Almost 2,000 drivers have joined the Uber Driver Scheme over the past six months, switching to either a Toyota or Lexus electric model. The scheme is part of Uber’s plans to operate a zero-emission platform in the UK by 2030.

Drivers were able to experience the vehicles in open conditions, offering a contrast to their usual stop-start driving in London’s traffic.

East London-based Uber driver Nuruzzaman Chowdhury was among those attending. He won a new Toyota bZ4X in a prize draw held during the event.

Alastair Rutt, Senior Manager One Toyota Business Team, said: “Our electric vehicle initiative with Uber has already been an outstanding success, with more than 100,000 visits to our dedicated microsite and thousands of drivers going ahead with a new vehicle purchase. With our Brands Hatch driving event, we were able to give our guests a real-world introduction to the strengths of our model range for a business where reliable performance and long-lasting quality are key.”
