Excalibur Auctions are set to offer up a huge and rare collection of taxi memorabilia later this month.

The Kings Langley based auctioneers were approached recently by a seller whose husband had passed away leaving a large collection of diecast and plastic model taxis.

After looking more at the collection, it was discovered there were over 500 individual models including rarer examples from French Dinky, Metosul and Tri-ang amongst many others.

Principal model toy valuers and diecast specialists collected all the models and brought them back to the auction house to be grouped and into suitable themed lots for auction on 27 May.

Just as Excalibur were finalising the catalogue including other diecast models, toys, Pelham Puppets and trains, the auctioneers were approached by another gentleman ready to part with his large collection of model taxis too.

The latest fleet of cabs are said to be from someone who worked in the taxi industry and ‘taught the famous Knowledge to London taxi drivers’.

The auction has now been published live online with the taxis ready to start journeys to their new owners on 27 May.
