‘HORRENDOUS CLUNK’: Watch DVSA find faulty taxi suspension before potential disaster
A taxi with a dangerously faulty suspension system has been removed from service after being stopped by DVSA Enforcement. The issue, described as a “horrendous clunk” by officials, was traced to a defective suspension ball joint.
The defect, if left unchecked, could have caused a catastrophic failure of both the suspension and steering systems. According to a DVSA Enforcement spokesperson, the vehicle was prohibited from further use until repairs are completed.
The DVSA released a video demonstrating the fault to highlight the risks associated with poor vehicle maintenance. This incident serves as a stark reminder for operators to prioritise regular inspections to ensure passenger safety.
Further updates are expected once the repair status is confirmed.
A DVSA Enforcement spokesperson said on 23 December: “There was no sound of jingle bells from this taxi! Just a horrendous ‘clunk’ from the suspension ball joint.
“Fortunately stopped before joint separation, which would have led to catastrophic suspension & steering failure!
“Prohibited from use until repaired.”
