Phil Davis, Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers (WCHCD), has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List for his charitable work with children facing life-limiting illnesses.

Davis, founder of the Magical Taxi Tour, received recognition for years of dedicated service to vulnerable young people.

The Magical Taxi Tour is an annual event that takes children with serious health conditions on a three-day trip to Disneyland Paris, providing joy and respite for families. It is organised by the WCHCD, a historic livery company representing London’s licensed taxi drivers. Founded in 2004, the WCHCD promotes excellence in the trade, supports education and training, and carries out charitable initiatives like the Magical Taxi Tour.

This year’s New Year’s Honours List also celebrated figures from across the arts, sports, and public service. Knighthoods were awarded to politician Sadiq Khan and former England football manager Gareth Southgate. Meanwhile, community leaders and volunteers like Davies were commended for their contributions to local services and charitable work during challenging times.

For Davis, the MBE not only honours his individual efforts but shines a light on the collective goodwill of the London taxi trade. The WCHCD continues to play a vital role in maintaining this proud tradition of public service, showcasing how the trade extends beyond transportation to create lasting impacts on lives.

A Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers (WCHCD) spokesperson said: “We offer our congratulations to Past Master Phil Davis "Founder, Magical Taxi Tour, Worshipful Company Hackney Carriage Drivers. For Charitable Service to Children with Life Limiting Illnesses" upon being appointed an MBE.”
