Hate crime probe launched after Newry taxi driver allegedly assaults man
Police in Newry are investigating an alleged assault by a taxi driver, which occurred on Thursday evening, 9 January, outside The Quays shopping centre.
The incident, reported at approximately 5.40pm, involved a man who was reportedly attacked by a taxi driver near a set of retail premises. Although the victim’s injuries are not believed to be serious, the suspect is said to have used racially discriminatory language during the altercation.
The suspect is described as a man in his 50s, and the incident is being treated as a hate crime.
Authorities have urged anyone with information or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to contact them.
