Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Traffic officers were out in force in Bolton as part of a targeted enforcement day, codenamed Operation Avro.
The initiative, held in partnership with the DVSA, immigration services, and local taxi licensing authorities, focused on tackling a range of road safety issues.
During the operation, GMP Traffic officers issued 65 Traffic Offence Reports (TORs). Offences ranged from speeding, driving without insurance, and using mobile phones behind the wheel, to not wearing seat belts. The enforcement action highlights ongoing concerns about driver compliance with road safety regulations.
The operation also led to the seizure of five vehicles, while one driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving. The collaboration with multiple agencies aimed to improve road safety and ensure that all vehicles, including taxis, met legal standards.
Operation Avro forms part of GMP’s broader strategy to reduce road traffic offences and improve safety across the region.
A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Traffic Officers spokesperson said: “GMP Traffic officers took part in Op Avro in Bolton today along with DVSA, immigration and taxi licensing.
“65 TOR’s were issued for Excess Speed, No Insurance, Mobile Phones, Seat Belts and more.
“5 vehicles were seized and 1 driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.”
