For the second year running, due to the pandemic, the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund is unable to take the city's children to Troon, so is bringing Troon to the children - with the help of DJ George Bowie, a long-standing supporter of the trip.

The famous annual taxi trip to Troon should be taking place a week today - Wednesday, 16 June - however has been cancelled due to COVID restrictions, as it was last year.

Instead, the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund charity will from 10am-4pm next Wednesday bring a host of entertainment via its social media channels to the 300+ children stuck in school or at home who would otherwise have made the trip.

The entertainment will include a special DJ set from George Bowie, "From A Balcony To Beyond", which will play out next Wednesday. Bowie has made the trip to Troon in person for countless years to help entertain the youngsters - and is backing it again in its lockdown format.

Stephen Lalley of the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund said: "This is an outstanding gesture from George but no surprise to anyone at the charity given his years of supporting the trip and entertaining thousands of delighted children during that period. Everyone connected to the charity thanks him for his unrelenting support.

"We'd love even more famous Glasgow faces to send the children a quick video message of support which we can play to them during the day - let's keep them smiling and give them even more magical memories to enjoy."

Anyone who can send a video message of support for the children should do so on or before Tuesday 15 June by WhatsApp to the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund on 07986 759533.
