Garda rolls out new enforcement app for roadside taxi and SPSV checks in Ireland
Updated: Oct 7, 2024

The National Transport Authority (NTA) of Ireland has taken a significant step in strengthening the enforcement of Small Public Service Vehicle (SPSV) regulations.
In July, a pilot phase began for the SPSV mobile enforcement app, making it available to a section of An Garda Síochána’s Roads Policing Unit.
This mobile app is designed to streamline the auditing of SPSV operators and facilitate the issuing of Fixed Penalty Notices. Garda officers can now conduct roadside checks and audits directly from their mobile devices as part of their routine enforcement duties.
The new system allows officers to quickly determine whether drivers are compliant with SPSV regulations, issuing fines on the spot for any infringements. By integrating this technology, Gardaí are now seen to be able to enhance both the efficiency and reach of their roadside enforcement activities across the country.
A full rollout of the SPSV app to all Gardaí is planned for later this year, with the expectation that this will bring greater consistency and robustness to the oversight of Ireland’s SPSV sector.
