A private hire driver in Avon and Somerset has been arrested for drink driving and drug possession after being stopped for an insurance check.
PC Patrick Quinton, known as the ‘Taxi Cop’ for Avon and Somerset Police, confirmed the arrest. He revealed that what began as a routine stop for no insurance quickly escalated when officers discovered the driver was under the influence and in possession of drugs.
No passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the arrest.
Authorities continue to carry out regular checks on private hire and taxi drivers to ensure passenger safety and compliance with licensing regulations.
PC Quinton said: “What started as a no Insurance case ended up with this private hire driver arrested for drink driving and possession of drugs.
“Thankfully, no passengers on board!”
