‘FRIGHTENING INCIDENT’: Police seeking taxi driver who locked in passenger during dispute over fare
Thames Valley Police is appealing for information following an incident of false imprisonment involving a taxi driver and a young woman in Amersham.
The incident occurred on Sunday 22 December 2024, between 4pm and 4.15pm. A woman in her twenties entered a taxi outside Oakfield Corner on Hill Avenue, near the NatWest bank. A disagreement broke out between the passenger and driver regarding the cost of the journey.
The woman indicated she would prefer to take a bus instead, at which point the driver reportedly locked the vehicle’s doors, preventing her from leaving. She was eventually released after a crowd gathered around the car, prompting the driver to flee the scene.
The suspect is described as a middle-aged Asian man, wearing a beige or green suit jacket. The vehicle involved is described as a silver saloon car, possibly a Mercedes.
Investigating officer PC Milla Thomson, based at Aylesbury police station, said: “We have been conducting a thorough investigation following this incident and we are now appealing for the public’s help.
“This was a frightening incident for the victim, who despite her ordeal, was not injured.
“I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information which could help our investigation.
