FREENOW partners with OVO to support EV taxi drivers with charging offers both on the go and at home
FREENOW, one of the UK's top taxi apps, has announced a new partnership with energy provider OVO to offer electric vehicle (EV) drivers access to competitive charging deals.
The collaboration aims to make EV charging more accessible, both at home and on the go, offering financial rewards for drivers making the switch to electric.
The partnership will provide FREENOW drivers with access to OVO's Charge Anytime service, allowing them to charge their vehicles at a market-leading rate of 7p per kilowatt-hour (kWh). The service, powered by Kaluza's smart software, automatically optimises charging times, ensuring vehicles charge when emissions and prices are at their lowest. This has already saved customers over £11 million since its 2022 launch.
EV drivers using Charge Anytime can benefit from low-cost charging around the clock, with annual driving costs reduced to just £190. It’s one of the most competitive tariffs available, and FREENOW drivers stand to gain significantly from the partnership.
Currently, 70% of FREENOW’s UK taxi journeys are made using zero-emission capable vehicles, primarily black cabs. This figure is expected to rise as more drivers adopt EVs, supported by initiatives like this.
FREENOW’s goal of providing clean and accessible transport aligns closely with OVO’s vision, with both companies working towards reducing congestion and pollution in cities. This new deal will help drivers across the country charge their vehicles efficiently, ensuring they are ready to meet the growing demand for electric transport options.
Nour Rasamni, Head of Operations at FREENOW UK, said: “Passengers and drivers are our number one priority at FREENOW. While we offer our passengers a wide range of EV taxi options, we also want to continue supporting drivers with the various costs associated with EV charging. This collaboration with OVO allows us to offer active drivers on the FREENOW app a great package that ensures they have access to the best rates for installing an EV charger, solar offering or charging their EV at home or while on the road.
“This collaboration will continue to support drivers with EV transition in an ongoing effort to contribute to the sustainable development of our cities.”
Alex Thwaites, OVO’s Director of EV, said: ‘'OVO is committed to accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles and this partnership will help do just that by extending affordable charging to more people than ever before. This is good news for EV taxi drivers and will also progress our mission to help customers cut costs and carbon.”
