FREENOW joins IRU to strengthen mobility offerings across Europe
FREENOW, a leading European multi-mobility app, has joined the International Road Transport Union (IRU) as its newest member. The move is expected to bolster FREENOW’s role in the evolving mobility landscape.
Founded 15 years ago as Europe’s first taxi app, FREENOW continues to place taxis at the heart of its services. However, the platform has since evolved, now providing a range of mobility options. These include car-sharing, car rentals, e-scooters, e-mopeds, e-bikes, and public transport – all accessible through a single app. By integrating external mobility providers and local public transport systems, FREENOW delivers seamless and flexible transport solutions to its users.
Operating in over 150 cities, FREENOW is looking to expand further as it responds to the rising demand for reliable, eco-friendly urban transport solutions. With a focus on digital and green mobility, the app aims to keep pace with the needs of modern urban travellers.
Umberto de Pretto, IRU Secretary General, said: “We are very pleased to have FREENOW join the IRU family. Their services allow people find the most suitable type of transport for their mobility needs. We look forward to working together and advancing safe, practical and sustainable mobility solutions to people across Europe.
“The global IRU family stands to benefit greatly from their expertise in transport digitalisation.”
Thomas Zimmermann, FREENOW CEO, said: “We are delighted to join IRU and become part of a global association gathering experts from the mobility and logistics sectors. This is a significant step for FREENOW as we reinforce our focus on our core taxi business. We advocate for the taxi industry across Europe and are dedicated to supporting policies that help it to continue to thrive.
“By joining IRU and its Taxi Group, we aim to strengthen efforts to consistently uphold the highest professional standards and regulatory framework for the taxi industry across Europe.”
