FREENOW has named Danny O’Gorman as its new General Manager for the UK. The move comes as the taxi app seeks to support London’s Black Cab sector and grow its presence in key UK cities.

Danny will be responsible for operations across the UK. His main focus will be strengthening the Black Cab industry, which has seen numbers fall from 22,810 in 2013-14 to 14,470 in 2023-24. A recent Centre for London report warns that the trade could disappear from the capital by 2045 without urgent intervention.

FREENOW says Danny will lead efforts to help the trade remain viable. That includes increasing passenger demand, improving driver support, and pushing for policy changes that safeguard the trade’s future. The company plans to keep providing drivers with technology and commercial tools to improve earning potential while maintaining reliable services for passengers.

Danny brings experience from his role as General Manager for FREENOW in Ireland, where the company leads the market. He previously held senior posts at Amazon and Catawiki, where he worked on logistics, commercial growth and operational efficiency. He holds a law degree from Trinity College Dublin.

In addition to his London focus, Danny will oversee the wider UK rollout of FREENOW taxi services in cities like Manchester, Edinburgh, and Oxford. He will work closely with drivers, fleet operators and policy stakeholders to help keep the trade competitive and ensure it is ready for the shift to electric vehicles.

Danny O’Gorman said: “I am honoured to take on this role at such a critical time for our taxi industry. Black cabs are not just an iconic part of London’s identity; they are a vital transport service that requires protection and support. My priority is to continue to work closely with drivers to ensure that they have the tools, opportunities, and backing they need to thrive and work closely with policymakers to grow and strengthen the taxi industry for the future.”

Tim Arnold, General Manager Europe for FREENOW, said: “We are delighted to welcome Danny to lead our UK business. His experience in the taxi sector in Ireland, combined with his prior experience in marketplace operations, logistics, and sales, makes him the perfect person to drive FREENOW’s next phase of growth in the UK. We are fully committed to London’s Black Cab trade and believe that under Danny’s leadership, we will continue to offer the best support for drivers and the best experience for passengers.”
