The Ford MAXiCab has officially secured licensing approval in Manchester, marking another milestone for Cab Direct as it continues to expand the reach of its new wheelchair-accessible taxi.
The MAXiCab, based on the Ford E-Transit, offers drivers a choice of three powertrains: a 2.0-litre Euro 6.2 diesel, a 2.5-litre petrol plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with 32 miles of electric range, and a fully electric version capable of up to 202 miles on a single charge. With quick charging capabilities of 80-100% in just 3.5 hours when using a wall box, the fully electric model offers a sustainable and practical option for taxi drivers operating in urban areas.
Designed with flexibility and accessibility in mind, the MAXiCab provides a large multi-seat layout suited for standard and wheelchair-using passengers alike. The vehicle holds full GB Type Approval as a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV), a key standard required by licensing authorities across the UK.
Cab Direct has already secured licensing approvals for the MAXiCab in several key locations, including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Chelmsford, Southampton, and Brighton. The recent approval in Manchester strengthens its position as a leading supplier of next-generation taxis.
The company has confirmed plans for a Manchester roadshow event, where local drivers and operators will be able to learn more about the new vehicle. Further details on the event are expected shortly.
