A man has been arrested in London after officers found a number of bags of drugs and a high amount of cash in his possession while travelling through Shoreditch.

The man was sporting the uniform and carrying the bag of the popular gig-economy fast food delivery firm, Just Eat.

Further investigations revealed that the man did not have a worker's account with the delivery firm and a roadside check by officers found that he was in possession of multiple small bags of what appears to be drugs, along with cash and a mobile phone.

Highlighting the incident on their official Twitter account @MPSSpecials, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "This fake take away delivery rider was nicked over night whilst riding through Shoreditch on route to drop off an order. Currently enjoying one of our fine en-suites."

It has been suggested that members of criminal gangs have been using the cover of delivery or private hire firms/vehicles as a way of avoiding detection from the authorities.

TaxiPoint recently reported on a fake Transport for London (TfL) private hire vehicle which was seized by police after it was suspected that the driver was using it for the purpose of criminality.
