Cumberland Council consults residents and drivers to help shape unified taxi fares structure
Cumberland Council has opened a public consultation on a proposed unified fare structure for Hackney Carriages across the area.
The council aims to introduce a single Table of Fares to create consistency in taxi pricing throughout the region. This proposal will be reviewed by the Regulatory Committee in the New Year, following feedback from the consultation.
Drivers and trade representatives are encouraged to submit detailed proposals, including rationale and, where possible, supporting figures. The council emphasises that only responses submitted directly to the Licensing Authority will be considered. Opinions shared in external media or informal discussions will not form part of the review process.
Residents, businesses, and those within the trade have until Wednesday 8 January 2025 to participate in the online consultation and share their views.
Cumberland Councillor and Portfolio Holder for Licensing and Regulatory Services, Cllr Bob Kelly, said: “This consultation is an opportunity to have your say on the proposed taxi table of fares for Cumberland and we want to consider as many views from the public as possible.
“I would encourage anyone with views on this matter to have their say and respond to the consultation with their thoughts. Those wanting to give their views should do so via the purpose-built consultation, as responses outside of this will not be presented to the Licensing Authority.”
