A crackdown on illegal parking in Clay Cross has led to more than 20 fines being issued over a single weekend. Joint patrols by the Clay Cross Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) and Civil Enforcement targeted problem areas after ongoing complaints about evening parking issues.
Patrols took place on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 February, focusing on Eyre Street, Eldon Street, Bridge Street, Market Street and High Street. Officers found vehicles parked on double yellow lines, in bus stops and even in disabled bays without a valid blue badge. Among those fined was a taxi driver.
A spokesperson for the Clay Cross SNT said drivers must not park in restricted areas, as this can obstruct emergency services, buses and commercial vehicles. Free car parks are available nearby, but some motorists continue to ignore the rules.
Civil Enforcement officers will continue to issue penalty notices for illegal parking. Vehicles left unattended and causing an obstruction risk being removed by police. More joint patrols are expected in the near future.
A Clay Cross Safer Neighbourhood Team spokesperson said: “Drivers are not allowed be parked on Double Yellow lines, in a Bus Stop, over dropped curbs or in disabled bays without a valid displayed blue badge. These forms of parking can hinder emergency service vehicles, buses, commercial vehicles and other road users. And as a reminder there are many free car parks in Clay Cross, on a few of the roads named above.
“Any forms of the above parking can receive a Penalty Notice Charge from Civil Enforcement. And if a vehicle is left unattended and causing an obstruction then this vehicle could also be recovered by police.”
