Central London set for major road closures for Chinese New Year celebrations

This Sunday (26 January) Central London will host Chinese New Year celebrations, with a huge number of road closures expected.

Below is a detailed list of all road closures, including times.

Sunday 26 January (8am to 8pm):

- Archer Street

- Bear Street

- Chandos Place closed westbound from Bedford Street

- ** Charing Cross Road slip (west of the old WCC Public Convenience Island adjacent to Irving Street/ Orange Street) - closed at 06:00hrs

- Charing Cross Road – from Denmark Street to St Martins Place

- Coventry Street between Haymarket and Wardour Street

- Cranbourne Street – east and west of Charing Cross Road

- Dansey Place

- ** Dean Street between Shaftesbury Avenue and Old - Compton Street - closed at 06:00hrs

- Denman Place

- ** Duncannon Street between St Martin’s Place and Strand - closed at 06:00hrs

- Frith Street (between Shaftesbury Avenue and Old Compton Street)

- Gerrard Place

- Gerrard Street

- Great Windmill Street

- Greek Street (between Shaftesbury Avenue and Old Compton Street)

- Ham Yard

- High Holborn closed west of Kingsway

- Hyde Park Corner slip to Piccadilly eastbound

- Irving Street

- Knightsbridge / Piccadilly Underpass closed eastbound at Hyde Park Corner

- Leicester Place

- Leicester Square

- Leicester Street

- Lisle Street

- Litchfield Street

- Little Newport Street

- Macclesfield Street

- Monmouth Street from Shaftesbury Avenue

- Moor Street

- New Compton Street from St Giles High Street

- New Oxford Street between High Holborn and Museum Street

- Newport Place

- Orange Street

- Oxenden Street

- * Pall Mall East - closed at 7am

- Panton Street

- Romilly Street

- Rupert Street between Archer Street and Coventry Street and between Coventry Street and Shaftesbury Avenue

- Shaftesbury Avenue – Both directions between Piccadilly Circus and Charing Cross Road (Cambridge Circus) and Westbound from St Giles High Street to Charing Cross Road (Cambridge Circus)

- St Martin’s Place between Irving Street and Trafalgar Square

- St Martin’s Street -

* Suffolk Place - closed at 7am - * Suffolk Street - closed at 7am

- Trafalgar Square – west side closed from 7am and east side closed from 8am

- Wardour Street – closed from Shaftesbury Avenue to Old Compton Street

- West Street

- * Whitcomb Street- closed at 7am

- William IV Street closed between Charing Cross Road and St Martin’s Lane and westbound between Adelaide Street and St Martin’s Lane

Parking suspensions


There will also be a number of parking suspensions in operation across the event weekend to facilitate the event activities and to ensure the event can take place safely. All affected parking bays will have suspension signage clearly displayed.
