Liverpool enforcement officers cracked down on black cabs in an operation that found illegal tyres and no card payment devices.
Liverpool City Council (LCC) Licensing team and Merseyside Police conducted the roadside inspections last night (Friday 19 August) in Liverpool’s City Centre.
Officers shared images and details of their findings on social media. One photo showed a heavily worn tyre tread on the inside of the wheel, while another image showed a sign displaying ‘Cash only’.
All taxis in Liverpool must supply card payment options to passengers as a condition of fitness.
A spokesperson from LCC Licensing said via social media: “Liverpool Licensing Officers have been working with colleagues from Merseyside Police this evening conducting roadside compliance inspections.
“Illegal tyres, drivers with no badges, incorrect signage, HCV's with no card readers among the cause of vehicle suspensions and defects.”
