Cabbies warned of new enforcement on Bishopsgate and Gracechurch Street bus gate restrictions

Enforcement of the bus gate restrictions on Bishopsgate and Gracechurch Street, is set to ramp up in a bid to stop those drivers who continue to flout the rules.

Senior taxi trade representatives were informed at a recent meeting that many drivers are ignoring the current signage, prompting authorities to take further action.

The bus gates have long been a concern within the taxi industry. Bishopsgate, a key route for many drivers, has been at the centre of controversy since the bus gate restrictions were first introduced.

Taxi drivers have long argued that the restrictions unfairly limit access to important parts of the City of London, complicating journeys for both drivers and passengers.

While no exact date has been given for when the enhanced enforcement will become operational, taxi drivers are advised to be cautious and ensure they adhere to the restrictions to avoid future penalties.

Drivers say the restrictions have made it harder to navigate key routes and leads to delays for those that rely on black taxis as their form of public transport.
