A cabbie in Dorset has been fined £100 and issued with 3 penalty points on his licence after officers witnessed him speeding on the wrong side of the road in dangerous weather to overtake another vehicle.

When questioned about his driving, the driver claimed that the need to get to his pick-up location was the reasoning behind his choice of manoeuvre.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police No Excuse Team, said: "We were in the area of Constitution Hill Road, Poole following speed complaints.

"The taxi below came to our attention after he was witnessed impatiently over taking a vehicle up the hill on the wrong side of the road at 42mph in the 30mph limit, in horrendous wind and rain.

"When stopped the taxi driver said “you know, we have to get to our job quickly” this was not acceptable, with junctions either side and vehicles coming down the hill.

"This was a professional driver, who received 3pts and £100 fine."
