Buckinghamshire taxi drivers and residents asked to shape future of local taxi service

Buckinghamshire Council is inviting residents, taxi drivers, private hire operators, and other stakeholders to have their say on the future of local taxi and private hire services. The council has launched a public consultation as part of efforts to update its county-wide licensing policy.

Running from Monday 16 September until 24 November, the consultation takes place via an online survey hosted on YourVoiceBucks. Participants will find key details on the proposed policy changes, with the opportunity to contribute their views. Additionally, the council will host workshops with specific interest groups to ensure that all perspectives are considered.

The consultation covers important topics such as driver application processes, vehicle standards, accessibility, private hire operator responsibilities, and the potential use of CCTV in licensed vehicles. The existing criminal record and unacceptable behaviour policies will remain in place for now, with future consultations planned to address these areas.

The council is urging all those affected by taxi and private hire services to take part in shaping this policy. The feedback collected will be crucial in aligning the final policy with both user needs and national standards.

Councillor Mark Winn, Cabinet Member for Homelessness and Regulatory Services, said: "This consultation is a crucial step in ensuring that our taxi and private hire licensing policy reflects the needs and expectations of users. We are committed to providing a safe and accessible means of transport for all, and all feedback will help us to achieve this goal."
