A representative of the Brighton & Hove Trade Association expressed their disappointment over London cab drivers using limited taxi rank spaces in Brighton as parking spots.

This type of illegal parking hampers local taxi drivers from Brighton serving their taxi ranks and customers. Taxi rank space for taxis are in short supply in the coastal city of Brighton, making it essential for local drivers to have access to these designated areas.

Several photos of Transport for London (TfL) licensed black cabs illegally occupying these ranks have also raised concern around the drivers' overall fitness to be a licensed drivers.

Andy Peters, Brighton & Hove Trade Association, said: “It is very disappointing that some of our London colleagues seem to think that our working ranks can be used for free parking in Brighton.

“We are very limited to ranking spaces so in doing so these London cab drivers are restricting us from serving the ranks.

“We will always report these to traffic enforcement which usually ends up with a PCN. However, as this is now a common occurrence all such illegal parking will now be reported directly to TfL.”

A respected London trade representative, Heather Rawlingson, added: “If you are going to park on a Taxi rank in another town, rather than pay to park, expect a letter from TfL.

“They will question whether you are fit and proper to hold a TFL licence. So far, no further action has been taken, but it will stay on your file.”
