BMW driver jailed after fatal head-on Pembrokeshire crash killed taxi driver
A BMW driver has been sentenced to prison after causing the death of a taxi driver in a head-on collision on the A4139 in Pembrokeshire.
Mateusz Sikorski, 30, was sentenced at Swansea Crown Court to two years and four months in prison following a guilty plea to causing death by dangerous driving.
The collision occurred as Sikorski was driving towards Penally when he collided with Christopher Boyle, 57, who was travelling in the opposite direction. Mr Boyle suffered fatal injuries in the crash, which took place in the early hours of 4 September.
Initially, Sikorski told police at the scene that Mr Boyle had been driving on the wrong side of the road. However, CCTV footage from a nearby petrol station contradicted Sikorski’s claim, showing his vehicle travelling on the wrong side of the road shortly before the collision. Sikorski later admitted he had been blinded by the taxi’s headlights and was indeed at fault.
In addition to his prison term, Sikorski was banned from driving for six years and two months.
Craig Harding, Crown Prosecution Service, said: “Mateusz Sikorski was driving in the dark and on the wrong side of the road.
“The manner of driving posed a major risk to other road users and resulted in fatal consequences.
“Our thoughts and sympathies remain with Mr Boyle’s family and friends who have suffered a dreadful loss.”
