BLACK CAB GROTTO: Festive Gett black taxi rides bring Santa and Christmas Lights to families in London
Black cab app, Gett, offered a festive treat to Londoners this holiday season, combining the magic of Christmas with the convenience of iconic black cabs.
On Saturday families had the chance to hop aboard a special Santa-themed black cab grotto for a short ride through central London. Starting from Hanover Square, the 5-10 minute journey took passengers past the capital’s dazzling Christmas lights. Santa himself joined the ride, entertaining guests with stories and photo opportunities.
The experience was offered for a small donation to The Childhood Trust’s Christmas Tree Appeal, which supports London’s vulnerable children. Gett matched all contributions. Tickets were limited to a maximum of four passengers per ride, with bookings made through Eventbrite.
Gett, already a trusted service for licensed black cabs, operates a vast black cab fleet in London. More than half of its vehicles are LEVC TX electric models, fitted with panoramic glass roofs that provided riders with spectacular views of the city’s festive lights.
Known for their speed and efficiency, black cabs on the Gett platform offer average pick-up times of just four minutes in central London. With the ability to use bus lanes and drivers trained in London’s famed ‘Knowledge’, the service ensures a reliable and smooth journey.
The Gett app is available to download on the App Store or Play Store.
Darren Armsby, the cabbie taking the reins of Santa’s sleigh for the occasion, said:“I’ve been a cabbie for 19 years and driving around London at this time of year never fails to impress.
“Regent Street will always be a firm favourite – but this year, I’d recommend a trip down Sloane Street in Chelsea. They’re unveiling a new canopy of twinkling foliage, it’s going to be stunning!”
Chris Lewis, Managing Director of Gett UK, said: “Black cabs are truly part of the fabric of London – they’re as iconic as the chandeliers on New Bond Street or Covent Garden’s towering tree. From the pop-up ice rinks and Christmas markets to pantomimes and carol concerts, London really does sparkle at this time of year, and we’re thrilled to be part of that magic, bringing festive fun for the family in the back of a black cab. And by partnering with The Childhood Trust, we’re also able to give back and help spread some cheer to vulnerable children in need.”
