Birmingham driver prosecuted for plying-for-hire as clamp down continues

A private hire driver caught illegally plying for hire in Birmingham was today hit with a big fine and points.

Birmingham City Council Licensing announced the conviction via social media. The driver was given a £660 fine, £66 victim surcharge fee and was forced to contribute £750 in prosecution costs.

The driver must pay within 28 days of the collection order made.

The private hire driver was also given 6 penalty points on their licence for the illegal activity.

The conviction comes after EIGHT private hire drivers were caught plying for hire after one mammoth night of enforcement in Birmingham last weekend.

Earlier this month, two more drivers were handed heavy fines after also being found guilty of illegally plying in the Midlands city.

One of the drivers found guilty was fined with costs totalling £1,030 with an additional 8 points placed on to his driving licence.

The second driver was given a combined fine with costs of £233 and 6 penalty points placed on to his driving licence.
