A Greek man has been arrested for trafficking large quantities of drugs while using a taxi as part of a wider organised criminal network.
The arrest was made by the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime on Wednesday 9 April, during a targeted operation following intelligence-led profiling and investigation.
According to Hellenic Police sources, the suspect was found in possession of significant amounts of processed and raw cannabis, cocaine, pink cocaine, MDMA, ketamine and ecstasy tablets. Police intercepted him while he was transporting the substances in his taxi, which was used to conceal and distribute the drugs.
In the taxi alone, officers seized 17.6 kilos of cannabis resin split into 179 nylon packages, 28.1 kilos of raw cannabis, 2.46 kilos of cocaine and 5 grams of pink cocaine.
Searches carried out at his home, a secondary hideout and another vehicle uncovered more narcotics and equipment. These included additional cocaine, MDMA, cannabis, ketamine, €17,700 in cash, two vehicles, a blank-firing pistol with ammunition, six mobile phones and three precision digital scales.
The total seizure amounted to 17.6 kilos of cannabis resin, 29.9 kilos of raw cannabis, 3.49 kilos of cocaine, 109 grams of pink cocaine, 381 grams of MDMA, 210.6 grams of ketamine and 390 ecstasy tablets.
He has been referred to the public prosecutor, with charges filed against him.
