Six taxi and/or private hire vehicle licences have been suspended after a night of enforcement checks in Nottingham.

Nottingham City Council, along with Gedling Borough Council, spent Friday night completing roadside checks on licensed vehicles.

A spokesperson for Nottingham City Council has warned drivers to check their vehicles thoroughly before beginning a shift.

All six vehicles will now remain off the road until all defects are fixed and checked. The council did not confirm how many were hackney carriage taxis and how many were private hire vehicles.

Taking to social media to highlight the night of enforcement, a spokesperson said via Twitter @NCCLicensing: "Joint enforcement operation with colleagues from Gedling Borough Council tonight in Nottingham City Centre.

"6 vehicle licences suspended for having defective tyres and lights. Drivers - take 5 minutes to check your vehicle before you start work."
