Police appeal after collision on A47 between van and taxi leaves four injured

Steve Kenton

Police are appealing for witnesses after a head-on collision left four people injured.

The collision, between a small black Ford van and a gold coloured taxi, happened on the A47 near Glaston at 8.05am on Tuesday 2 July.

The black van was travelling away from Uppingham on the A47, heading towards Glaston when the crash happened.

Two people were injured in the collision. The driver of the van and a passenger in the taxi, both men, were taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham where they remain.

Two others, the taxi driver and a second taxi passenger – a woman and a girl – suffered minor injuries and went to the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The road remained closed for a number of hours following the collision, but has since been reopened. Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, anyone who remembers seeing the two vehicles just before the collision, or who may have dashcam footage of the collision.

DS Paul Hawkins from the force’s serious collision investigation unit said: “If anyone was travelling in either direction on the A47 this morning, I’d like to speak to you. “It happened at a busy time of the day, and I know there were a number of cars on the road. “Any footage you may have, no matter how small you think it may be, it might help us piece together what happened in this collision.” If you have any information which you think may help, please contact us on 101, quoting incident number 119 of 2 July.
