Telford cabbies to undergo stricter licensing tests in a bid to improve safety

Prospective cabbies in Telford are to undergo stricter tests to get their licences in a bid to improve safety.

Candidates will have to pass a more robust topographical test, as well as undertaking a safety training course before finally taking a practical exam on the road. The company charged with overseeing the tests by are the TTC Group, who also deliver national speed and drink-driving awareness courses in the area.

New taxi and private hire drivers will be given a set of scenarios that they may habe to face during the course of their job, and will have to identify how they will handle those situations.. 

It was reported by the BBC that the council have also been training taxi drivers how to recognise the signs of child sexual exploitation.
