Bristol City Council announces low emission taxi subsidy

Taxi drivers in Bristol are to be offered financial incentives to switch to low emission taxis.

Bristol City Council have been awarded a £449,500 grant from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to facilitate the change over, which is expected to see around 100 drivers make the switch.

The incentives which total £3,635 per proprietor over a five-year period will also cover licensing and certificate of conformity fees.

The subsidy was announced in conjunction with an initiative which will see up to 300 taxis improve emissions by reaching Euro VI standard. It is expected that the scheme will be operational by 2019.
