Police appeal for help following Birmingham meat cleaver taxi attack

Detectives in Birmingham are appealing for information following a disorder in the city centre last month. The disorder took place on Sunday 4 February 2018 at around 12.30pm on Essex Street outside the I-land apartments, but it’s unclear what sparked the disorder. Two men were caught on CCTV having a heated argument before a further ten men are seen to exit the I-land apartments and chase after one of the men. The man gets into the taxi but not before taking what looks like a glass bottle out of the waistband of his trousers.

The group of men chase after him, with one of the group taking a meat cleaver from inside his coat and throwing it at the taxi, smashing the rear window. The man then retrieves the meat cleaver and puts it back into his pocket before the group run off. Do you recognise any of the men pictured? DC Peri Dhesi from Force CID, said: “This happened in broad daylight with little regard for the safety of the public around them. “We urge any members of the public who were either witnesses to the incident, or can identify the individuals in question to get in touch with us." If you have any information please contact PC Peri Dhesi on 101 quoting crime number 20BW/ 30217X/18. If you don’t want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
