Police have seized vehicles in Leicester following complaints from residents about parking problems that were preventing safe use of a pavement.

East Leicester Police said PCSO 6582 attended Portishead Road on Sunday to address concerns raised by people living in the area.

According to the force, several attempts were made to identify and contact the owners of the vehicles before enforcement action was taken.

The vehicles were subsequently seized using what police described as relevant DVLA and highway obstruction powers.

East Leicester Police said: “After making several attempts to identify and contact the vehicle owners without success, PCSO 6582 took enforcement action, with the vehicles being seized under relevant DVLA and highway obstruction powers.”

Police said the action had left Portishead Road free from the obstructing vehicles, allowing pedestrians and wheelchair users to use the pavement safely.

Pavement obstruction can be particularly problematic for wheelchair users, people with mobility difficulties and parents using pushchairs, who can otherwise be forced into the carriageway.

East Leicester Police thanked residents who reported the issue and said community reports continued to help officers address local safety concerns.
