Hearse driver reported by Merseyside Police after mobile phone use behind wheel

A hearse driver has been reported after being seen using a mobile phone while driving by police officers in Merseyside.
Officers from Merseyside Police’s Roads Policing Unit stopped the black hearse after observing the alleged offence from a marked police vehicle.
The force said: “The driver of this hearse was sighted using their mobile phone whilst driving, even with a marked RPU vehicle in view.”
Using a hand-held mobile phone while driving is illegal in the UK, including when a vehicle is stationary in traffic. Enforcement can result in six penalty points and a £200 fine, with more serious cases potentially referred to court.
Police confirmed that the vehicle was stopped and the driver reported. No further information about the location or any subsequent penalty was provided.
