Bristol Taxi Cop warns over illegal parking after community complaints

Taxi and private hire drivers operating in Bristol have been reminded to park responsibly after complaints from residents prompted fresh reports to licensing authorities.

PC Patrick Quinton, the dedicated Taxi Cop for Avon and Somerset Police, said concerns over illegally and inconsiderately parked taxis and private hire vehicles were raised during a community meeting in Easton, with Stapleton Road identified as one of the areas attracting attention.

PC Quinton revealed that recent parking investigations had led to three reports being submitted to local councils. He added that the drivers involved were not only linked to poor parking but were also found to have “other matters of concern”, suggesting wider licensing or compliance issues had been identified during enquiries.

Quinton urged drivers working in the Stapleton Road area to consider the impact their parking has on residents and other road users.

He said: “Some of the meeting involved the issue with poor parking in the area. My colleagues send me reports of taxis and PHV’s parked illegally or very badly. I’ve had to send three reports to the Councils recently where I’ve found those drivers also have other matters of concern.”

The warning comes as local authorities and police continue to place greater emphasis on standards within the licensed trade, with enforcement activity extending beyond vehicle condition and driver licensing to include behaviour on the road and in local communities.

In a separate update, PC Quinton reported positive findings following inspections of school contract vehicles at a North Bristol school. He said every vehicle checked was found to be in good condition, with only a small number of minor badge display issues identified.

The outcome will provide reassurance to parents, schools and local authorities that the vehicles inspected met expected safety standards, while also demonstrating the value of regular compliance checks on operators providing home-to-school transport.
